Crochet Stitches
Crochet stitching is one of the most interesting hobbies one can get into. It is fulfilling as it is challenging.
It is quite interesting to know that to create a masterpiece out of crochet stitching, you just need to learn a few basic stitches. Once you are able to obtain the knowledge on the basics, you will be able to learn the rest, become really creative, and work out the patterns to help you create your first crochet masterpiece.
Chain: The Basic Stitch
The mother of all crochet stitches is the chain. It is the most basic, which serves as a foundation for all the other stitching patterns. Almost every crochet stitching pattern starts with a chain. That’s why it is very important to master how to do a chain stitch.
To start off with a chain stitch, you need to start with a slip knot. This is to keep your work from unraveling. After you make a slip knot, you must hold the hook, draw the yarn over to the hook, and pass the loop to create a new loop. Repeating the step will help you create a chain of loops that you will need to complete a pattern. Before you get your crochet stitching hobby into full swing, master the chain stitch by repeatedly creating loops. After perfecting the chain stitch, you will be ready to learn the other crochet stitches. A sure sign that you are ready to move on to other crochet stitches is being comfortable with the hook and the yarn as you make chain stitches. Then you are all ready to create a crochet artwork!
Learning the other Stitches
Unfortunately, no crochet masterpiece can be done with just chain stitches. Learning a couple more of the basics will, however. It is important, therefore, that you do not stop learning after you are able to master the chain.
The next stitching pattern to learn is the single crochet. To make a single crochet stitch, you must form a second loop on the chain you are working on. How you will be able to do that? Easy. You skip the loop right next to the loop on the tip of your hook to begin a second loop. Then you will pick up the loop, wrap your working yarn onto the hook and slide it into the second loop. After that, you will wrap the working yarn around the hook again but this time, you will draw the hook through both the loops. As you reach your desired length, you will need to make chain stitches again to start off with another row. A combination of chain and single crochet stitches can help you make coaster sets.
When you have learned the chain and the single crochet stitches, you will be ready to learn the rest, which are a little more complicated than the first two. But as crochetstitches.org will tell you, it is quite fulfilling to learn the complex stitching patterns. Because after that, you will be up and about to make not just coaster sets and hot pads but scarves, quilts, vests, and even bags.
